“Cuddles & Cake!” – Childrens’ Activity Day at Foyer Sud
In a country as small, lucrative and orderly as Luxembourg, you would not necessarily consider womens’ shelters to be in great demand. Scratch the surface of the city however, and you soon realise there are social problems affecting single women and mothers with children of all ages.
On Saturday 23rd August, Serve the City volunteers visited Foyer Sud Women’s Shelter, to spend a morning making a difference to the children who live there, giving their mothers a well earned rest.
Aged from 3 months to 11 years old, the children at Foyer Sud enjoyed a morning of cuddles, painting, drawing, playing, chocolate cake making – and most importantly, a great deal of care and laughter from the volunteers.
We were amazed at how happy and sociable the children were, showing affection and friendliness to strangers, communicating with us in various languages, and genuinely being excited about our visit.
Serve the City have worked with the shelter on previous volunteering projects, including decorating the hallways to make it a brighter, happier place for the women who live there. Read our blog to find out more.
We would like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their time to come and make a difference to the children.
We also hope to make these childrens’ activity mornings a regular volunteering opportunity, so if you would like to find out more, please email ciara@servethecity.lu
