STC Volunteers: Claudia & Alix

 In STC Luxembourg

Do you sometimes wonder whether or not you would be good at volunteering? Are you hesitant it will take up too much of your time? Or maybe you think you need some sort of special skills?

At Serve the City, we offer a variety of volunteer opportunities that will fit around your schedule. You can volunteer just once or several times in a month or throughout the year, it’s really up to you! Most of our volunteering is done in the following languages: English, French, German, Luxembourgish, Arabic, etc., so it’s easy to communicate.

Once you decide on a project that interests you, one of our partnership coordinators will contact you with helpful information the night before, they will also be there to greet and give you instructions on the various tasks for the day. Soon you will see that volunteering is an opportunity for you to share any special skills you may have or learn new ones along the way, without any added pressure.

The best part about volunteering is seeing how your small act of kindness can make a big difference in another person’s life. Don’t take our word for it, check out what Claudia and Alix had to say about their volunteering experience with Serve the City.

Project: Filmowend matt frenn (Film Night with Friends)

“As a volunteer for the Red Cross, I was really excited to learn about STC’s ‘Filmowend mat frenn’ project. Working as a volunteer serving meals does not often allow you to have much interaction with the Foyer residents but with Filmowend mat frenn you have the possibility to really get to know people in the Foyers, their individual stories and how much adversity they have overcome just to be here. I particularly enjoy watching the children get ‘immersed’ in the movies we show. If only for a short time, it takes them away to another place, another adventure and it’s a pleasure to be involved in it.”

Project: Beauty Event

“It’s always a pleasure to work with Serve the City for the beauty events. On that rainy Saturday morning, we were able to share a few hours of relaxation and pampering with those beautiful women.
While doing each woman’s makeup, I listened to her story, what she liked, what her plans for the day were, what her children were like. It warmed my heart when, upon seeing their “new” reflection in the mirror, their faces lit up and they said: ‘I feel beautiful!’ A few of them even said they were going to go for a walk and have coffee that day because they were feeling good about themselves. To me, that is the whole point of doing those beauty events.”
