Our first Focus Day: Serving Women in Need
On Saturday 19th October, we are organising our first Focus Day, which is aimed at Women in Need. We are very excited to be continuing our partnership with FMPO (Fondation Maison de la Porte Ouverte) as well as announcing a new partnership with Foyer Sud – Fraen an Nout (managed by the Conseil National des Femmes du Luxembourg a.s.b.l.), which runs a women’s shelter in Esch-sur-Alzette.
Two projects will take place on the same day and we hope to draw attention to the the difficult situations facing many women in our country:
Beauty Afternoon – We will be treating the women at two of FMPO’s Foyers to an afternoon of pampering with make up tutorials, manicures and massages! We want to remind them them that whatever the circumstances of their lives, they are beautiful and valuable (please note that on this project we only accept female volunteers).
Painting project – we’re going to brighten up a number of communal areas and bring some colour into the lives of the residents of Foyer Sud! Whether you have any painting skills or not, we’d love to use you! The more volunteers we can generate the more we can get done on the day!
For both of these projects, we’re also looking for volunteers to help do Crafts for children (at the Beauty Afternoon, the crafts activity is also open to men). This will allow the mothers to enjoy their relaxed afternoon of pampering or to join us in the painting project.
As we have limited spaces available for each project, please sign up straight away if you would like to be involved. By signing up you are agreeing to come, and you should let us know as soon as possible if you will not make it, so that we can offer your spot to someone else.
Once all our spots are filled, you’ll get an email letting you know which days we need you. Then we will let you know in the week before the project, the address, plan and any details you need.
We look forward to serving with you on the 19th!
**UPDATE 17 OCT – Thank you for your enthusiasm! These projects are now fully subscribed. To hear about future volunteer opportunities with Serve the City, sign up for our newsletter (over there on the top right –>) and like us on Facebook. **
