Bridging Cultures: A European Quiz for Refugees

 In STC Luxembourg

At Serve the City Luxembourg, our mission is to integrate refugees into the local community while offering them support and fostering a sense of belonging. Recently, our team had the privilege of organizing a unique event at the KNC Shelter, which primarily houses refugees with disabilities. This event was not only a fun activity but also an important step towards integration and cultural education.

A Fun-Filled Quiz Contest

With the help of four dedicated volunteers, we launched a quiz contest at the shelter. We designed the quiz with 27 questions focusing on European Union history and geography. This choice of subject was intentional, aimed at helping the refugees familiarize themselves with their new environment and understand the cultural and historical context of Europe.

Integrating Through Learning

The theme of the quiz was centered on European Union to support the integration program. Many refugees have fled to Europe seeking safety and a fresh start. By learning about European culture and history, they begin to feel more connected and start seeing themselves as part of the European vision. This understanding is crucial for building new lives and feeling a sense of belonging.

Celebrating European Day

In addition to the quiz, we celebrated European Day by decorating the shelter with European Union flags and flags from various European countries. The event concluded with a delightful celebration featuring cakes and drinks, offering a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together, share stories, and enjoy each other’s company. This simple act of sharing food and drink helped break down barriers and build stronger bonds within the community

A refugee is someone who survived and who has the will to live.”
By Elie Wiesel, Nobel Laureate.

Events like these are vital for the integration of refugees. They provide not only knowledge but also a sense of inclusion and community. By participating in the quiz, the residents Shelter not only learned about Europe but also had a chance to showcase their knowledge, build confidence, and feel valued.

At Serve the City Luxembourg, we believe in the power of community and the importance of making everyone feel like they belong. We are committed to continuing our efforts to support and integrate refugees, and we look forward to organizing more such events in the future.
