Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with refugee Kids

As part of our ongoing efforts to highlight the amazing work of our volunteers, we sat down with Emilie, a Project Leader with Serve the City Luxembourg, to discuss her role and experiences with the organization. We also caught up with Catherine O’Neill, well-known to our community and part of Comhaltas Luxembourg, who shared her thoughts on the recent St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

A Passion for Helping Others

Emilie’s journey with Serve the City Luxembourg began in 2023, when she joined as a volunteer. Her motivation for getting involved was simple: she wanted to make a difference in the lives of children in need. As a Project Leader, Emilie is responsible for organizing Kids Activities and Movie Nights in local refugee shelters.

Creating Joyful Moments

One of Emilie’s most memorable experiences with Serve the City Luxembourg was a recent St. Patrick’s Day celebration she organized for the children in the shelter. The event was a huge success, with the kids enthusiastically embracing the festivities and enjoying traditional Irish music, dancing, and snacks.

A Sense of Belonging

For Emilie, the importance of these projects cannot be overstated. She believes that every child deserves to feel happiness, safety, and belonging, regardless of their background or circumstances. By providing a safe and welcoming space for children to play, learn, and grow, Serve the City Luxembourg is making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Together, we can create a brighter, more compassionate community for all. As Emilie so eloquently puts it, “Even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Every child deserves moments of joy and a chance to experience childhood without the burden of worry.”

“We were delighted to welcome the wonderful volunteers from Serve the City organisation and some of their young friends to our St. Patrick’s Day children’s céilí, on Saturday 15th March. The event was a wonderful celebration of Irish culture, where the kids learnt some traditional Irish dancing, creating an atmosphere filled with laughter and smiles. It was a beautiful opportunity to share our rich Irish culture with its deep-rooted traditions of music, dance, and storytelling. It embodies a spirit of community and resilience that resonates with people from all walks of life. We are grateful for the chance to come together and celebrate the vibrant tapestry of our shared human experience.” Catherine O’NeillComhaltas Luxembourg
