Dancing, Duck Fishing and Delicious Food! – Foyer Sud Summerfest
Abuse of women and children is as much a problem in Luxembourg as it is elsewhere in the world, we just don’t hear much about it.
One of our regular partners, Foyer Sud, a shelter for women and their children, need regular support from volunteers to help give residents some much needed ‘me time’. The children, who differ in age, background, race and language also rely on volunteers for regular entertainment and a chance to play whilst their mothers rest.
On June 20th, Serve the City helped the Foyer host their ‘Summerfest’ party. This was a great occasion for the women and children of the Foyer but also the women who have left the structure and were invited back to meet old and new friends, and to talk about their new lives. It was a huge success. The women were very happy and loved the oriental dance class from a volunteer who is a professional dance teacher and who won a dance competition too! It was so popular we may try to host classes on a regular basis.
We also had facepainting for the children, duck fishing, a wheel of fortune, and a Tshirt design workshop. We cooked and enjoyed a great BBQ and a lot of delicious cakes. It was a fantastic event and the management were extremely grateful to Serve the City for making it happen. Seven volunteers in total helped throughout the day with the children and the BBQ and of course cleaning up after the party!
Thank you to all!
