From Classroom to Community: Alexandra’s Week at STC
Luxembourg is known for its international buzz, but for one week, student intern Alexandra saw a different side of the city, one defined by kindness, service, and connection.
When Alexandra joined Serve the City (STC) for her internship, she came with a simple desire: to help people in need. By the end of the week, she left with something much bigger, a clear vision for her future.
Discovering a Passion for Service
For many students, an internship is just a box to tick. For Alexandra, it was a moment of clarity. “I was considering working in this direction in the future but wasn’t completely sure yet,” she reflects. “This internship showed me how much I truly enjoy helping people. Now I definitely know it’s something I want to do later in life.”
On the Frontlines: The Street Team Experience
Out of all the diverse projects Alexandra touched, from refugee shelters to kids’ activities, the Street Team left the deepest impression.
“It made me happy to help the homeless people,” Alexandra shares. “As we gave them food and drinks, they were so grateful, as if they had been waiting for this the whole day. Seeing them happy made me happy.”
Skills That Make a Difference
At STC, we believe every talent can be used for good. Alexandra utilized her design skills to support our administrative office, creating impactful visual posters using Canva. By blending creative office work with hands-on field activities like organizing movie afternoons and yoga sessions at shelters, she saw the full spectrum of how an NGO operates.
A Message to Other Students
If you are a student in Luxembourg feeling nervous about volunteering for the first time, Alexandra has a message for you:
“It might seem scary the first time, but it’s the opposite. At the end of the day, it fulfills you. You might make a small action, but for someone else, it could be a huge impact in their life.”
