I Volunteer – Dominique Lorentz

Why do I volunteer? …

Because the people I’m helping give me so much back. A simple smile or an honest thank you makes me feel useful and happy. It doesn’t take much time to help someone in need.

Since I started volunteering for the homeless people, I have a different view of them. They are people like you and me, who just have less luck in life or took the wrong way at a certain point. This doesn’t mean they are different.

Handing out sandwiches to them and talking to them, teaches me to enjoy the small things in life, to be more critical towards the material world.

Volunteering with serve the city gives me the opportunity to meet a lot of people, especially those who live on the fringe of society.

I can not change their situation but I can make them feel respected, appreciated, valuable or happy for one day or at least for a few hours. They deserve it and we are able to help them!
