Kicking Off Hope: Sports Activities Bring Joy to Refugee Shelters
As part of our ongoing efforts to support refugees in Luxembourg, Serve the City recently launched a sports activity program last Summer. Our goal is simple: to bring hope and joy to those waiting for their asylum process to be completed. Every week, we introduce a variety of games, including football, volleyball, badminton, etc, providing a fun and engaging way for refugees to release tension and boost their mood.
But our initiative goes beyond just sports. During breaks and after events, we encourage participants to practice languages, share stories, and get to know each other on a personal level. This fosters a sense of community and belonging, helping to reduce stress and depression. For many refugees, this activity offers a much-needed respite from the uncertainty of their asylum process.
To further support integration, we invite members of the local Luxembourg community to join us. Together, refugees and locals play, laugh, and build relationships, bridging cultural divides and fostering connections outside of the shelter. Doing so empowers refugees to become active participants in society, breaking down barriers and promoting social cohesion.
Through this initiative, we witness the transformative power of sports and community engagement. Join us in making a difference in their lives!
