Serve the City Street Team – Christmas edition
Our Street Team have been going out regularly on a Saturday lunchtime, to meet the homeless and other people in need on the streets of the Gare and Bonnevoie quarters, chat with them and offer them sandwiches and hot coffee.
This December, Serve the City received a wonderful donation from the children of Millermoaler School in Echternach. Their teachers Dominique Lorentz (a regular STC volunteer!) and Isabelle Lambert organised them to decorate special Christmas bags and fill them with specially decorated Christmas cookies and chocolate treats.
And so on Saturday 7th, our Street Team met as normal to make the sandwiches and coffee, and then headed out with 40 extra Christmas bags. The team always makes it’s way through the city, saying hello to people they see regularly and meeting new people in need.
The Christmas gifts were warmly received by the people we met on the streets, who were all touched that the children had wanted to make something for them. A big thank you to Dominique and Isabelle and all the children of Millermoaler School for their hard work and care!

Our Street Team will continue during 2014. We are always looking for volunteers interested in joining those small teams, particularly if you are able to communicate in Luxembourgish, German or French. If it feels a little outside your comfort zone, know that you will always be with people who have been before – and read Miranda’s story of how she overcame her own nerves!
Email: manuel (at) servethecity.lu, with you availability and languages, and he will contact you about future dates.
