Serving women and children in need on 4th May
Over the past few months, Serve the City has been working to build relationships with local organisations in Luxembourg that are doing some important and life-changing work at the grass roots level.
We’re really pleased to be able to announce our partnership with Fondation Maison de la Porte Ouverte (FMPO). FMPO works with vulnerable women and children in Luxembourg who need a safe place to live, due to domestic violence, extreme financial difficulty and other challenges.
On Saturday 4th May during the afternoon, we are organising a number of small projects with FMPO at two of their houses:
Beauty Afternoon – We will be treating a group of women to hand massages, and makeovers. We want to remind them that whatever the circumstances of their lives, they are beautiful and valuable (Women volunteers only).
We are specifically looking for a woman who can translate from English to French for us during this project.
Crafts for children – to allow their mothers to enjoy their relaxed afternoon of pampering, we’re taking the children off their hands and organising some fun craft activities together.
Bike Repair – FMPO owns a number of bikes for their residents to use but they’re in need of some maintenance and tune up. We’ll make sure they’re in top shape.
Clothes Storage Sorting – FMPO is lucky to receive clothes donations from supporters for their residents but they are in need of sorting by age and gender. We’ll put it all in order for them.
In addition to these four small projects with FMPO, we want to repeat our project with the Homeless in Luxembourg, spending the afternoon meeting them and speaking with them, and hearing what their needs are. We’re in communication with a local NGO called Stemm vun der Ströss, who are giving us advice on how best to help the Homeless in Luxembourg.
We have limited spaces available for each project, so please sign up straight away if you would like to be involved. By signing up you are agreeing to come, and you should let us know as soon as possible if you will not make it, so that we can offer your spot to someone else.
You’ll receive a full email with location and timing after you’ve signed up, in the week before the project.
If spaces are filled up before you sign up, don’t despair – we’ll have more projects coming soon! Do let us know if you have any ideas or contacts that we could explore.
We’re looking forward to serving with you on 4th May!
UPDATE 28 APRIL: We have reached our volunteer capacity for this project, so the sign up is now closed. If you’re already signed up, you’ll be receiving an email from us this week with all the project details. If you had hoped to sign up, remember to sign up for our newsletter, to be amongst the first to hear about our upcoming volunteer opportunities!
